On May 13-14th, 2008 500 physician members of the American College of Physicians representing 50 different states met in Washington, D.C. to meet with their congressional members to discuss health care policies as they relate to internal medicine. Dr. Mark Levine, the Vermont Governor of the ACP, as well as Drs. Chris Holmes, Nathaniel Price and Lynda Tilluckdharry (all internists working at the University of Vermont / Fletcher Allen Health Care)

The group had the pleasure, and the honor, of walking the Halls of the Library of Congress as well as the tunnels that run underground between the offices of the Senate and the House of Representatives that are as old as the capital itself! Finally, and most importantly, we met with the Staff of Senator Patrick Leahy, as well as Representative Peter Welch and with Senator Bernie Sanders themselves who were deeply engaged with the top priorities of the American College of Physicians.

It was an illuminating moment to observe some of the most influential political figures of our State, and try and make a change for the better in what is perhaps one of the most important political issues of our time.
